When summer ends Sirmione changes pace: fewer crowds, more time, low light over the lake. It is the right moment to discover it slowly. Here are a few ideas for a weekend.
Walk through the old town
The village, the Scaliger Castle and the lakefront are best enjoyed out of season. Before you go, check winter opening times, which change during the year.
The Grottoes of Catullus
At the tip of the peninsula lie the remains of the great Roman villa, with a view over the lake that is often crystal clear in winter.
The thermal spas
Sirmione is known for its thermal waters: a spa break is a classic on cold days.
A Lugana wine tasting
Sirmione lies in the Lugana area, the signature white wine of the southern shore. A guided tasting introduces you to the wine and its land; the same area offers Valtènesi rosé and, not far away, Franciacorta sparkling wines.
An evening in the kitchen
In winter Talent Kitchen runs evening cooking classes: sushi, ramen and gyoza, gluten-free pizza, Christmas fresh pasta and fermentation classes. You cook with the chef and have dinner together. Dates are in the class calendar.
Take Lake Garda home
For a souvenir you can drink: in the shop you can build a case of 6 different Lake Garda wines.
